TeePublic Navigation Redesign

TeePublic is a B2C e-commerce print-on-demand marketplace, featuring creator-generated artwork on apparel, accessories, and home goods for customers to purchase.

I led a redesign of TeePublic’s navigation, leading to a boost to sessions with navigation engagement, as well as overall site CVR improvements.

    Case Study (2024)

TeePublic’s navigation experience was inconsistent across device types, with the majority of content and merchandising discovery pathways only being visible on desktop devices.

I was tasked with redesigning the navigation to increase engagement with the marketplace’s immense content library. Additionally, search need to remain a key feature, and the navigation needed to include highly-visible pathways to topics and merchandise. This redesign needed to also lay the foundation for future account features.

I spent time evaluating a redesign from an external agency, which provided inspiration for the redesign. I also utilized Baymard Institute’s research for understanding navigation best-practices, and user-tested design concepts with Maze.

After completing the design, I worked with the Engineering team to scope out the technical work. This included defining the conditional logic for the different navigation experiences (eg, guest visitors vs. a logged-in artist), and establishing release and QA timelines.

The original experience, used from 2021-2024.

The new Navigation experience, launched in February 2024, utilizing the new TeePublic design system.

The modernized Cart tray experience prompted users to browser content of popular topics if their cart was empty.

Rather than standard text links, a highly visual sub-navigation with links to the most popular topics and products provides quick pathways to the best marketplace content.
